~ Thoughts from Former Members ~

Former Vice President: Javunte Blockson

Vice President for Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 Semesters

BAP offered me a opportunity to lead, help, and encourage fellow students. I develop new skills while recognizing deficiencies in others. connecting with professionals from different firms gave me insights about the industry along with their day to day responsibilities. BAP helped me to build a network of new friends, professionals and a job with Moss Adams in my home city of Los Angeles. I encourage new and current accounting students to join BAP to not only better their careers but themselves.

Former President: Lilliana Steele

President for 2020 Spring & Fall Semesters

Now that I have graduated, I am hoping to pursue my Master’s in professional accountancy.
During my time here at Chico State, Beta Alpha Psi helped connect me with a lot of my fellow classmates, creating friendships that extended outside of the classroom. Beta Alpha Psi also gave me a lot of opportunities such as volunteering in the community, taking on leadership roles, and growing my teamwork and networking skills as an officer.

Former Director of Development: Raymond De La Paz

I had a very enriching experience as Director of Development for Beta Alpha Psi. Beta Alpha Psi provided me the opportunity to meet and connect with many peers as well as professionals from several firms. I was also able to attend the 2019 BAP Nationals in Chicago, which was an incredible educational opportunity and networking event. After Chico State, I will be working full-time in audit for Crowe at their Sherman Oaks(LA) office while also studying to pass the CPA exam.

Former Director of VITA: Leilani Gigena

Director for 2020 Spring & Fall Semesters

Volunteered for VITA for 2 years

I am Leilani Gigena, BAP Director of VITA. This organization challenged me to become inclusive with my peers. VITA was my first accounting experience by preparing taxes for those who needed it the most. I felt supported amongst my peers and I was able to build a strong network of focused individuals. This was extreme crucial in landing me a position as a tax intern at EY, because there was someone who was also a past BAP and Chico State Alum working at EY, who was able to vouch for me. This same BAP Alum had trained me during my internship and gave me a sense of belonging at this prestigious firm. I currently have a Full-Time offer there in the Fall of next year because I asked for time to take the CPA in the Spring.
— Leilani Gigena

Everyone from my firm that interacted with the Chico State students were very impressed with their energy, professionalism, and ability to communicate. They made me proud to be a Chico alumni.
